Date format
[нисйан]For the Chechen language, we can make three dates, let's ask developers or technical specialists to make a format "2022 шеран 27 май", "2022 ш. 27 май", by default, you can "2022, 27 май". For all cases (for all pages).--ТӀахӀиргӀеран Ӏумар (дийцар) 2022, 26 май, 21:20 (UTC)
- I still see Russian dates on many pages. Therefore, I ask you to make Chechen dates on all pages.--ТӀахӀиргӀеран Ӏумар (дийцар) 2022, 26 май, 21:26 (UTC)

Community Wishlist Survey 2022 is coming. Help us!
[нисйан]The Community Wishlist Survey 2022 starts in less than two weeks (Monday 10 January 2022, 18:00 UTC). We, the team organizing the Survey, need your help.
Only you can make the difference
How many people will hear and read about the Survey in their language? How many will decide to participate? Will there be enough of you to vote for a change you would like to see? It all depends on you, volunteers.
Why are we asking?
- We have improved the documentation. It's friendlier and easier to use. This will mean little if it's only in English.
- Thousands of volunteers haven't participated in the Survey yet. We'd like to improve that, too. Three years ago, 1387 people participated. Last year, there were 1773 of them. We hope that in the upcoming edition, there will be even more. You are better than us in contacting Wikimedians outside of wikis. We have prepared some images to share. More to come.
What is the Community Wishlist Survey?

It's an annual survey that allows contributors to the Wikimedia projects to propose and vote for tools and platform improvements. Long years of experience in editing or technical skills are not required.
Thanks, and be safe and successful in 2022! SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 2021, 29 декабрь, 03:15 (UTC)

Rollout of the new audio and video player
[нисйан]Дехар до, хьайн матте гочдан гӀо дехьа
Hello,
Over the next months we will gradually change the audio and video player of Wikis from Kultura to Video.js and with that, the old player won’t be accessible anymore. The new player has been active as a beta feature since May 2017.
The new player has many advantages, including better design, consistent look with the rest of our interface, better compatibility with browsers, ability to work on mobile which means our multimedia will be properly accessible on iPhone, better accessibility and many more.
The old player has been unmaintained for eight years now and is home-brewn (unlike the new player which is a widely used open source project) and uses deprecated and abandoned frameworks such as jQuery UI. Removing the old player’s code also improves performance of the Wikis for anyone visiting any page (by significantly reducing complexity of the dependency graph of our ResourceLoader modules. See this blog post.). The old player has many open bugs that we will be able to close as resolved after this migration.
The new player will solve a lot of old and outstanding issues but also it will have its own bugs. All important ones have been fixed but there will be some small ones to tackle in the future and after the rollout.
What we are asking now is to turn on the beta feature for the new player and let us know about any issues.
You can track the work in T100106
Thank you, Amir 2022, 17 февраль, 17:59 (UTC)

Отключено расширение Graph
Hello. For many years, community members have requested an easy way to re-use references with different details. Now, a MediaWiki solution is coming: The new sub-referencing feature will work for wikitext and Visual Editor and will enhance the existing reference system. You can continue to use different ways of referencing, but you will probably encounter sub-references in articles written by other users. More information on the project page.
We want your feedback to make sure this feature works well for you:
- Please try the current state of development on beta wiki and let us know what you think.
- Sign up here to get updates and/or invites to participate in user research activities.
Wikimedia Deutschland’s Technical Wishes team is planning to bring this feature to Wikimedia wikis later this year. We will reach out to creators/maintainers of tools and templates related to references beforehand.
Пожалуйста, помогите нам распространить сообщение. --Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 10:36, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

'Wikidata item' link is moving, finally.
[нисйан]Hello everyone, I previously wrote on the 27th September to advise that the Wikidata item sitelink will change places in the sidebar menu, moving from the General section into the In Other Projects section. The scheduled rollout date of 04.10.2024 was delayed due to a necessary request for Mobile/MinervaNeue skin. I am happy to inform that the global rollout can now proceed and will occur later today, 22.10.2024 at 15:00 UTC-2. Please let us know if you notice any problems or bugs after this change. There should be no need for null-edits or purging cache for the changes to occur. Kind regards, -Danny Benjafield (WMDE) 2024, 22 октябрь, 11:29 (UTC)
Sub-referencing: User testing
[нисйан]
Apologies for writing in English, please help us by providing a translation below
Hi I’m Johannes from Wikimedia Deutschland's Technical Wishes team. We are making great strides with the new sub-referencing feature and we’d love to invite you to take part in two activities to help us move this work further:
- Try it out and share your feedback
- Please try the updated wikitext feature on the beta wiki and let us know what you think, either on our talk page or by booking a call with our UX researcher.
- Get a sneak peak and help shape the Visual Editor user designs
- Help us test the new design prototypes by participating in user sessions – sign up here to receive an invite. We're especially hoping to speak with people from underrepresented and diverse groups. If that's you, please consider signing up! No prior or extensive editing experience is required. User sessions will start May 14th.
We plan to bring this feature to Wikimedia wikis later this year. We’ll reach out to wikis for piloting in time for deployments. Creators and maintainers of reference-related tools and templates will be contacted beforehand as well.
Thank you very much for your support and encouragement so far in helping bring this feature to life!We will be enabling the new Charts extension on your wiki soon!
[нисйан](Apologies for posting in English)
Hi all! We have good news to share regarding the ongoing problem with graphs and charts affecting all wikis that use them.
As you probably know, the old Graph extension was disabled in 2023 due to security reasons. We’ve worked in these two years to find a solution that could replace the old extension, and provide a safer and better solution to users who wanted to showcase graphs and charts in their articles. We therefore developed the Charts extension, which will be replacing the old Graph extension and potentially also the EasyTimeline extension.
After successfully deploying the extension on Italian, Swedish, and Hebrew Wikipedia, as well as on MediaWiki.org, as part of a pilot phase, we are now happy to announce that we are moving forward with the next phase of deployment, which will also include your wiki.
The deployment will happen in batches, and will start from May 6. Please, consult our page on MediaWiki.org to discover when the new Charts extension will be deployed on your wiki. You can also consult the documentation about the extension on MediaWiki.org.
If you have questions, need clarifications, or just want to express your opinion about it, please refer to the project’s talk page on Mediawiki.org, or ping me directly under this thread. If you encounter issues using Charts once it gets enabled on your wiki, please report it on the talk page or at Phabricator.
Thank you in advance! -- User:Sannita (WMF) (talk) 2025, 6 май, 15:06 (UTC)
Join the 6th Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos Campaign – 2025 Edition
[нисйан]Dear Wikipedia community,
(Please help translate to your language)
We invite your community to participate in the 6th edition of the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos Campaign, a global campaign taking place from July 1 to August 31, 2025.
Participants will choose among Wikipedia pages without photos, then add a suitable photo from among the many thousands of photos in the Wikimedia Commons, especially those uploaded from thematic contests (Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, Wiki Loves Monuments, etc.) over the years.
More than 80 Wikimedia affiliates have participated since the campaign was launched in 2020 and have added images to more than 400,000 Wikipedia articles in over 245 Wikipedia languages. Thanks to the volunteer contributors!
We now invite your community to organize and lead the campaign within your community. As a local organizer, you may:
- Encourage individual members to take part by adding images to Wikipedia articles.
- Host edit-a-thons focused on improving visual content.
- Organize training workshops to teach contributors how to correctly integrate images into Wikipedia.
These activities will help build local capacity and increase visual content across Wikipedia.
Please note that for participants to be eligible to participate in the campaign, they need to have registered an account for at least a year before the official start date of the contest. That is, for the 2025 edition, they must have registered an account on or before July 1, 2025. The account can be from any Wikimedia project wikis.
The organizing team is looking for a contact person to coordinate WPWP participation at the Wikimedia user group or chapter level (geographically or thematically) or for a language Wikipedia.
We would be glad for you to sign up directly at WPWP Participating Communities.
With kind regards,
User:Reading Beans On behalf of the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos campaign 2025. MediaWiki message delivery (дийцар) 2025, 18 май, 21:53 (UTC)
Wikidata Item and Property labels soon displayed in Wiki Watchlist/Recent Changes
[нисйан](Apologies for posting in English, you can help by translating into your language)
Hello everyone, the Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects team is excited to announce an upcoming change in how Wikidata edit changelogs are displayed in your Watchlists and Recent Changes lists. If an edit is made on Wikidata that affects a page in another Wikimedia Project, the changelog will contain some information about the nature of the edit. This can include a QID (or Q-number), a PID (or P-number) and a value (which can be text, numbers, dates, or also QID or PID’s). Confused by these terms? See the Wikidata:Glossary for further explanations.
The upcoming change is scheduled for 17.07.2025, between 1300 - 1500 UTC.
The change will display the label (item name) alongside any QID or PIDs, as seen in the image below:

These changes will only be visible if you have Wikidata edits enabled in your User Preferences for Watchlists and Recent Changes, or have the active filter ‘Wikidata edits’ checkbox toggled on, directly on the Watchlist and Recent Changes pages.
Your bot and gadget may be affected! There are thousands of bots, gadgets and user-scripts and whilst we have researched potential effects to many of them, we cannot guarantee there won’t be some that are broken or affected by this change.
Further information and context about this change, including how your bot may be affected can be found on this project task page. We welcome your questions and feedback, please write to us on this dedicated Talk page.
Thank you, - Danny Benjafield (WMDE) on behalf of the Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects Team. MediaWiki message delivery (дийцар) 2025, 14 июль, 12:45 (UTC)
Upcoming Dark Mode user interface rollout for anonymous Wikimedia sites users
[нисйан]Маршалла Wikimedians,
Apologies if this message is not in your language. Дехар до, хьайн матте гочдан гӀо дехьа.
The Reader Experience team will launch the Dark mode feature for anonymous users on all Wikimedia sites, including yours, on October 29, 2025.
Dark mode is an option that allows users to view pages in light-coloured text, and icons on a dark background. Once it is available for anonymous users, they can enable it when using various devices. More information on ways to enable it can be found on this page. Given many pages are still not compatible with dark mode this will be an opt-in feature and not automatically apply to pages.
Dark mode requires modifications to content pages and templates, and since our initial launch in July 2024, we have been working with communities and helping them prepare for dark mode. Before the rollout, it is essential that template authors and technical contributors test dark mode and read this page to learn how to make pages Dark mode-ready and address any compatibility issues found in templates.
We will fix most color compatibility issues only on the most-viewed pages on projects with over 5 million monthly page views. Technical contributors with an account should opt into dark mode currently using preferences or settings and test pages and seek help before the release to ensure everything complies before the enablement.
If you have any questions or need help, please contact the Reader Experience team for support.
Thank you!
Request for Comment: VisualEditor automatic reference names
[нисйан]Hi, I’m Johannes from Wikimedia Deutschland’s Technical Wishes team. Apologies for writing in English. Дехар до, хьайн матте гочдан гӀо дехьа! We are considering to work on Community Wishlist/W17: Improve VE references' automatic names and reuse. This has been a long-term issue for wikitext editors (see e.g. en:WP:VisualEditor/Named references) which has been among the top-voted wishes in several Community Wishlist Surveys, e.g. 2017, 2019, 2022 or 2023.
We would like your input on the solutions proposed on our project page: m:WMDE Technical Wishes/References/VisualEditor automatic reference names. We are considering several options, which can be combined if desired by the community.
- Changing the default pattern for automatically generated reference names (currently
":n", e.g.":0",":1"...) to use the reference type instead (e.g."book_reference-1"). - Providing a simple mechanism for communities to configure a different default name.
- Generating automatic reference names based on the domain name (if it’s a web citation).
- Generating automatic reference names based on template parameters (e.g. "title" or "last"+"first") – defined by the community.
Feedback
[нисйан]Visit our project page to read about our proposal in detail and share your thoughts on metawiki.
Please note: We will only implement a solution if there’s clear consensus among the global community. Our intention is not to build the perfect solution, but to find a simple and lean one that alleviates the pain caused by auto generated names. We are aware that some experienced VisualEditor users might prefer an option to manually change reference names in VisualEditor, but such a UX intervention is difficult to achieve across reference types and thus out of scope for our team, we can only improve the auto-naming mechanism. We are happy about suggestions for improving certain details of the proposed solutions. Any other feedback and alternative proposals are also welcome – even though it’s out of scope for us, it might still be relevant for future work on this topic.
Please support us interpreting consensus by clearly indicating your opinion (e.g. by using support/neutral/oppose templates). We are aware of en:WP:NOTVOTE, but given that we are facilitating this discussion with users from different wikis, potentially commenting in their native language, clearly indicating your position helps us avoid misunderstandings.
Thank you for participating!Action Required: Update templates/modules for electoral maps (Migrating from P1846 to P14226)
[нисйан]Hello everyone,
This is a notice regarding an ongoing data migration on Wikidata that may affect your election-related templates and Lua modules (such as Module:Itemgroup/list).
The Change:
Currently, many templates pull electoral maps from Wikidata using the property P1846, combined with the qualifier P180: Q19571328.
We are migrating this data (across roughly 4,000 items) to a newly created, dedicated property: P14226.
What You Need To Do:
To ensure your templates and infoboxes do not break or lose their maps, please update your local code to fetch data from P14226 instead of the old P1846 + P180 structure. A list of pages was generated using Wikimedia Global Search.
Deadline:
We are temporarily retaining the old data on P1846 to allow for a smooth transition. However, to complete the data cleanup on Wikidata, the old P1846 statements will be removed after May 1, 2026. Please update your modules and templates before this date to prevent any disruption to your wiki's election articles.
Let us know if you have any questions or need assistance with the query logic. Thank you for your help! ZI Jony using MediaWiki message delivery (дийцар) 2026, 3 апрель, 17:09 (UTC)
