Deutsch: „In Grün zwei schräg gekreuzte goldene Peitschen, überdeckt mit gespaltenem goldenen Mittelschild, über dem eine goldene Laubkrone schwebt; darin vorne ein halber schwarz bewehrter roter Adler am Spalt, hinten übereinander zwei schwarz bewehrte rote Bärentatzen.“ Das Wappen der Stadt Wittmund wurde im Jahr 1930 vom Preußischen Staatsministerium verliehen. Ein neues Wappen besteht seit 1973 und lehnt sich an das Bild im ersten Fleckensiegel aus der Zeit um 1500 an. Der Adler im Wappen erinnert an das Häuptlingsgeschlecht der Tom Brok, welches bis in das Jahr 1420 Ortsherr war. Die Tatzen sind eine Minderung des Bärenwappens der Häuptlingsfamilie Attena, die seit 1457 Wittmund und später das Harlingerland beherrschte. Die Peitschen oder auch Geißeln und die Krone benutzten die Attena als Zeichen für Wittmund; sie bildeten vor der Wappenverleihung allein den Inhalt der älteren Fleckenwappen.
English: „The arms were officially granted in 1930 with blue background and are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1540. The eagle and the bears claws were black. The eagle is most likely derived from the arms of the Tom Brook family, who ruled the area until 1420. The two bear claws are derived from the arms of the Attena family, who acquired the town in 1457. The two whips were used by the Attena family as a symbol for the city, and were also used as the only symbol on the seals of the city for some time.“
